These Terms of Service govern your use of the Tokyo Calligraphy Mia website (tokyo-calligraphy-mia.com) and participation in our calligraphy experience sessions. By using our website or submitting a reservation request, you agree to these terms.
1. Service Description
Tokyo Calligraphy Mia offers private and small-group Japanese calligraphy (shodo) experience sessions at our studio in Higashi-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo. All sessions are conducted by our instructor Mia (pen name: Kenko), a certified calligraphy master with over 35 years of experience.
Each session includes matcha tea, a choice of kimono dressing or origami, and a calligraphy lesson tailored to your selected course (Plum, Bamboo, or Pine). Full details of each course are available on our courses page.
2. Reservations
- All sessions are by appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted.
- Reservation requests are submitted via our online contact form. A reservation is confirmed only after you receive a written confirmation from us.
- Please select your course at least 3 days before your visit, as we prepare a custom calligraphy template for each guest.
- Group size is limited to 1–6 participants per session.
- We reserve the right to decline or cancel reservations at our discretion.
3. Cancellation Policy
- 7 days or more before the session: Free cancellation.
- 3–6 days before the session: Free cancellation, but please notify us as early as possible so we can prepare accordingly.
- Within 2 days of the session: Please contact us to discuss. Late cancellations may not be accommodated, and no-shows are not refunded.
- Cancellations must be communicated via our contact form or by direct reply to your confirmation email.
4. Payment
- Payment is made on the day of your visit, cash only (Japanese Yen).
- We do not accept credit cards, electronic payments, or foreign currency.
- Prices are as listed on our website at the time of booking. Prices are inclusive of all session components (matcha, kimono or origami, calligraphy, and seal where applicable).
5. Participant Conduct
- Please arrive on time. Late arrivals may result in a shortened session.
- Participants are expected to treat the studio, materials, and instructor with respect.
- Alcohol consumption before or during the session is not permitted.
- We reserve the right to refuse service to any participant whose behaviour is disruptive or disrespectful.
6. Photography and Intellectual Property
- Photography is welcome during the session for personal use.
- Sharing photos on social media is encouraged. We appreciate being tagged: @miashodo.
- All calligraphy works created during sessions belong to the participant.
- The Tokyo Calligraphy Mia name, logo, course names, and all website content are protected by copyright and may not be reproduced without written permission.
7. Liability
Tokyo Calligraphy Mia takes reasonable care to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. However, we are not responsible for:
- Allergic reactions to matcha or food items served. Please inform us of any allergies in advance via the contact form.
- Loss, damage, or theft of personal belongings during your visit.
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services or website.
8. Website Use
You may use tokyo-calligraphy-mia.com for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You agree not to:
- Reproduce or redistribute website content without permission
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems
- Submit false or misleading information via our contact form
- Use automated tools to scrape or harvest data from this website
9. Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of our services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of our website or services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
